You can make many beautiful decorations with salt-dough clay. You have endless possibilities and the cost of clay is very low. It is a perfect material for artistic purposes for everyone, especially for children.
You can find different recipes for salt-dough clay. Main ingredients however are always the same – salt, flour and water. Only proportions can be different in various recipes.

We recommend the easiest and the best recipe:

Ingredients:
  • 1 glass of evaporated salt (fine-grained)
  • 1glass of wheat flour
  • ½ glass of water

Note! If you want to make very big elements of salt-dough clay, add two glasses of evaporated salt instead of one. When you want to make very small elements, add  100g of potato flour.

Instructions:

Pour flour and salt to a bowl and mix them, then add water. Knead until it is smooth. It should look like a dough for dumplings and not be sticky. If it is too wet, add more flour. When it is not sticky and forms a springy sphere, it is ready for use. Now you can play with it and create your little masterpieces.
After you make a decoration from salt-dough clay, you have to dry it out. You can air-dry it  and it will not crack. But the process takes 1-2 days. It might be too long for children who want to paint them right away so it is possible to dry them in an oven heated to 75°C but only under parental supervisory. This method may result in clay cracking so keep the oven temperature as low as possible.
After drying, you can paint your decorations. Use paints and nail polish for some details. At the end you can finish your work with transparent varnish.
