Salt and health
Salt is one of the oldest spices used by human beings. Its priceless property was adding taste to all dishes but even more important were its preserving properties. Salt consists of two very reactive elements: sodium and chlorine. In a clean form they are toxic and inassimilable by people. However in a form of sodium chloride which is salt they have significant impact on water and electrolyte management of our bodies. Of course, too much is not good, but extensive limitation of sodium consumption is not good either. In some cases (e.g. people very active physically) it may lead to significant deficiencies resulting in a worse physical shape, weariness, sometimes it can even result in losing consciousness. Usually it happens when the body is strongly dehydrated, e.g. in summer or during very intense training. Additionally, sodium chloride is also used in case of fever, extensive burns, vomiting, diabetes and other diseases.

Negative effects of salt consumption:
  • hypertension that may lead to respiratory system diseases
  • overconsumption of salt may be related with stomach cancer or strokes
  • excess supply of salt may increase uptake and storing of water in human body (if kidneys work properly, they will remove the excess, but in case of their wrong functioning it may result in their edema)

Positive effects of salt consumption. Salt has also some benefits:
  • salt maintains acid and alkaline balance
  • regulates water management in human body
  • sodium chloride has significant impact on water and electrolyte management. Sodium is responsible for proper blood volume and pressure and for transportation of such elements as vitamins, sugars and aminoacids

Salt is also very important for our neural system. Thanks to its high content of iodine it is used for treatment of respiratory system diseases. Salt removes toxins and unnecessary elements of metabolic conversion from your bodies. It has also positive impact on blood circulation. A handful of salt added to bath is not only relaxing but also moisturizes and nourishes the skin.  In such an easy way we can have a bit of relax in our home SPA. Salt is used also as a peeling and can help to fight cellulite.
